For Excellence in the Field of Ash Research Most Outstanding Poster Presentation presented at WOCA 2009



Introduction:

The Poster Award is given to the poster presentation judged the most outstanding in the Poster Session of WOCA. It is selected by a panel of judges and is presented after the conference.

Description:

The award consists of

  • US$500.00
  • An engraved plaque given to the recipient







History:

The large number of both poster and oral presentations at WOCA 2005 made apparent a need for both an oral and a poster persentation awards. The Barton A. Thomas Memorial Award was presented to the best oral presentation.

The 2007 award was deemed to be a tie, so there were two groups of recipients:

2007 Poster Award Winners:

  • Robin Guynn, Environmental Resources Management, Annapolis, MD, for her poster titled "Use of a CCP Grout to Reduce the Formation of Acid Mine Drainage: 10-Year Update on the Winding Ridge Project."
  • University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, Department of Civil Engineering, for three posters entitled: "Soft Clay Improvement Using FBC Fly Ash", presented by Arleene Reyes Rodriguez; "A Joint Industrial Byproducts Reutilization Initiative", presented by Sangchul Hwang; and "Utilization of Coal Combustion Byproducts as Capping Amendments for Heavy Metals Sequestration", presented by Sangchul Hwang.

2005 Award Winners:

The 2005 Poster Award winners were Maria Mastalerz and Agnieszka Drobniak who were co-presenters of "Associations of Mercury in Indiana Coals and Their Fly Ash; Insights from a Sequential Extraction Technique." Both recipients are located with the Indiana Geological Survey at Indiana University.
